North West Breeze was contracted to perform professional air duct cleaning at the Linn County Sheriff's Jail in Albany, Oregon. Correctional facilities demand continuous ventilation to maintain air quality for staff and inmates across housing units, booking areas, and common spaces. The facility's HVAC system had accumulated significant dust and debris over years of 24/7 operation, requiring a thorough professional cleaning to restore airflow and indoor air quality.
Why Correctional Facilities Need Regular Duct Cleaning
Jails and prisons present some of the most demanding HVAC environments in any building type. With constant occupancy, limited ability to open windows or increase outdoor air exchange, and strict security requirements that complicate maintenance access, dust and particulate matter accumulate faster than in conventional commercial buildings. Rooftop HVAC Equipment
The jail's ventilation system is served by large rooftop air handling units that condition and distribute air throughout the building. These units are the heart of the HVAC system — and keeping the ductwork connected to them clean is essential for the equipment to perform as designed.
Our Process On-Site
Working inside an active correctional facility requires careful coordination with security staff and facilities management. Our approach for this project included:
- Security coordination — all crew members cleared facility protocols, and work zones were scheduled around inmate movement to maintain safety
- Zone-by-zone cleaning — duct runs were cleaned systematically to avoid disrupting ventilation to occupied areas
- High-powered vacuum + mechanical agitation — truck-mounted equipment with rotary brush tools dislodged and extracted years of compacted debris
- Rooftop access work — inspected and cleaned connections at the rooftop air handling units where ductwork ties into the main system
- Photo documentation — before/after images captured at every stage for facility records
Outcomes
The Linn County Sheriff's Jail project was completed on schedule with full cooperation from facility staff. Airflow improvements were immediately measurable, and the HVAC system is now operating with significantly lower static pressure across cleaned runs.
