The Project
NWBreeze completed a commercial air duct cleaning project at Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, Oregon. The work focused on large lined supply sections, aggressive dust loading on fibrous liner, and coordinated handling of heavy duct modules where interior access and exterior staging had to line up with the facility's security and operations schedule.
Institutional HVAC runs long hours with high occupancy density. That combination moves fine dust through returns faster than in a typical office building — which is why facilities of this scale lean on periodic professional duct cleaning and documented close-out photos.
Interior: Before & After (Wide View)
The frame below is one continuous interior run: the upper portion shows heavy grey buildup on the liner and floor before agitation and vacuum; the lower portion shows the same geometry after the section was cleaned, with the dark liner and quilted texture readable again and manufacturer markings visible on the wall.
Another Perspective on the Same Run
A second angle on the same type of lined trunk shows how dust blankets the entire cross-section — not just the floor — until negative-pressure vacuuming and mechanical agitation pull it out of the airstream path.
Scale Outside the Building
These components are not residential-sized branches — they're full institutional mains and transitions. The photo below shows sections staged on the ground with vacuum hose connected, which gives a sense of mass and connection hardware before anything is lifted back into place.
Before & After — Lined Duct Corner (Interior)
The pair below is a tighter interior shot: heavy particulate and dulling on the liner before work, then the same corner after cleaning with a more uniform, maintained liner surface and visible security glazing in the background — consistent with a controlled institutional environment.
How We Approach Large Institutional Jobs
- Pre-job walk-through with facility maintenance to lock access windows, tooling paths, and communication expectations.
- Negative-pressure containment on opened sections so debris moves toward the vacuum, not into occupied zones.
- Mechanical agitation matched to liner type and sheet-metal gauge — no one-size-fits-all brush choice on runs this large.
- Progressive inspection with photo checkpoints so ownership sees the same before/after evidence you see here.
Commercial Work Beyond the Portland Core
NWBreeze is known across the Portland–Vancouver metro for residential and light commercial duct cleaning; this Salem project is an example of a larger institutional scope delivered under the same process standards.
